Beacon light at his back, so late the hour
Gazing at the stars he was waiting for the morning sun
Counting hours, counting years to kingdom come
His youth long gone, his friends long lost
His hair turned white, his heart to frost
One night the old man whistled a playful tune
That brought a smile to the face of the man on the moon
In turn he showed him such kindness and wonders unknown
And from that night on the old man was no longer alone
And then one night such a beauty stepped down from a cloud
As he saw her dancing the old man wept out loud
He couldn't hold back the tears for such joy he felt
And the frost around his heart at last did melt
The old man dreamt yet was wide awake
As the little dancer came close and his hand did take
But the night was old and the morning might come all too soon
As they danced on the clouds, talked to the man on the moon
Yet on his face the old man did spot a tear
That filled his mind with doubt, his heart with fear
But the little dancer appeared so serene
As she stepped on her cloud and took in the scene
The man on the moon now openly cried
As he sad farewell to the lighthouse where his old friend died
