Under is a British sludge metal band from Stockport, England, active since 2015. They’ve carved a niche in the heavy underground by combining the dense riffing and slow-burn weight of sludge with moments of progressive dynamics and textured instrumentation. The combination gives their music both heaviness and depth.
Musical Style & Highlights
- Their sound is anchored in slow-to-mid tempo riffs, thick bass/guitar tones, and atmospheric layering — typical of sludge metal — but with added progressive touches: dynamic shifts, varied song structures, and a focus on mood. Encyclopaedia Metallum
- Vocals, instrumentation and production combine to create an immersive atmosphere, offering both head-bangable heaviness and introspective heaviness.
- They are part of the UK heavy underground scene, which brings a certain regional character to their approach (rather than purely US or Scandinavian sludge/trash roots).
