The Sera is a Pontic Greek war dance of ancient Greek origin, from the Pontus region of the Black Sea. Its name comes from the Serra river, in the region of Trapezounda. It is also called Pyrrhichios
Between the years 1917 and 1922, the Greeks of Pontus, in defense of human life and their dignity, went to the mountains with self-denial and self-sacrifice. They formed guerrilla groups to protect their families and homes from the violence, persecutions, and extermination methods employed by the Turks—methods that defy human comprehension.
The genocide began in 1914 by the Young Turk regime, which was led by the Three Pashas, and, after a short interwar pause in 1918–1919, continued until 1923 by the Kemalist regime which was led by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. Both nationalist movements massacred the Pontians and deported them to the interior regions of Anatolia. This resulted in approximately 350,000 deaths – about half of the pre-genocide Pontic population.
The genocide ended with the deportation of the survivors to Greece during the population exchange between Greece and Turkey in 1923.
The Pontic genocide is part of the wider Greek genocide, but it is often covered separately because of the geographic isolation of Pontus and several political and historical features.

Κατά τα έτη 1917-1922 οι Έλληνες του Πόντου για την υπεράσπιση της ανθρώπινης ζωής και της αξιοπρέπειάς τους, ανέβηκαν στα βουνά με αυταπάρνηση και αυτοθυσία. Συγκρότησαν αντάρτικες ομάδες για να γλυτώσουν τις οικογένειες και το σπιτικό τους από τις βιαιοπραγίες, τις διώξεις και τις μεθόδους εξόντωσης των Τούρκων. Μεθόδους που δεν μπορεί να συλλάβει ο ανθρώπινος νους.
Συμμετείχαν περίπου 30 άτομα, υπό την καθοδήγηση της Προέδρου κ.Σοφίας Σαββίδου.
